The Formula for Successful Job Hunting

You may feel like job hunting is an alien formula, disturbingly similar to the chemistry experiments you had to recreate in a high school lab: a little of this, a drop of that, and boom! Like in this failed experiment, your job hunting efforts aren’t only unsuccessful, but you feel a little burned by the process.

Finding a job is becoming more and more challenging, but it doesn’t have to end in disaster. By following the right formula for successful job hunting, you’ll have the power to turn your destiny around.

Step 1: Modernize Your Resume

The old rules of resume writing are rapidly evaporating. Take the time to familiarize yourself with “dos and don’ts” of modern resume creation. Now that job applications are sent through websites and e-mail, yours has to stand out—the right way. Learn how to lose generic wording and showcase your skill.

Step 2: Network and Network Some More

Networking has become an essential aspect of finding job leads. Careers in travel nursing, for example, may be hard to uncover on your own, but when you start networking with other people, doors start to open. Websites like LinkedIn are a good place to start, as are universities and organization websites.

Step 3: Be Prepared

You never know when an opportunity is going to walk your way, literally. How do you look? Could you meet up with a job door-opener ASAP or do you need a shower and a hangover tonic? Keeping up appearances is important if you want that appearance to say “I have a career.” Don’t overlook mental preparedness either. Further education, training, credentials, or certifications are excellent ways to say “I’m serious about my career.”
