Liberation Programs:
Saving Lives from Drugs and
Alcohol
As
the largest and most comprehensive provider of substance abuse services
in
Fairfield County Liberation Programs is a leader in the fight against
addiction. Liberation Programs uses its
full
continuum of treatment services (including detoxification, residential
programs
for men and women, and outpatient counseling for youth, adults and
seniors) to
ensure that no person in need of care is left behind.
In addition, Liberation Programs provides outreach
and case management to persons living with HIV or AIDS, homeless women,
and
recovering persons with disabilities.
Liberation
Programs is exceptionally qualified for its role in the community. Liberation Programs is, in reality, a
constellation of quality programs designed to meet the unique needs of
our
diverse region. Each program within
Liberation Programs serves a specific need or client population. Moreover, all who come to Liberation Programs’
doors receive help regardless of ability to pay.
Liberation Programs/Youth (offices located in Greenwich, Stamford and Darien; services provided
throughout region) provides comprehensive substance abuse prevention
and
treatment services for young people and families. Prevention
services assist young people to
cope with the pressures of an increasingly complex society. Educational sessions, outreach, and life
skills training offered in schools, churches and other community
settings help
strengthen our youth. Counseling
services provided by experienced staff ensure that every individual and
family
in need of substance abuse treatment receive quality care.
The Liberation
Programs Peer Players, a troupe of
local high school students trained
in theatre and improvisation, work with our prevention specialist to
get across
our message to middle and high school students throughout the region.
Liberation Programs/Seniors is the only substance abuse
prevention and treatment program in Fairfield County exclusively assisting
seniors. Seniors abusing alcohol and/or
prescription drugs enter recovery through individual, group and family
counseling that targets their unique needs. Seniors
at risk for abuse learn new ways of coping and
find support to
maintain a sober lifestyle. Seniors,
however, receive more than counseling services. Our
staff members transport clients, visit them at home
and at
healthcare centers and ensure that they are receiving adequate medical
attention and social service supports.
Liberation Programs/Women and
Children Residential Services (Stamford) play a crucial role in
the network of services available to pregnant and parenting women. Liberation Programs Families in
Recovery Program (FIRP) is very
different from most
treatment services for women. FIRP makes
it possible for women and their children to live together as a family
in our
residence while Mom receives treatment. Pregnant
women also live and receive treatment at FIRP,
and are able to
deliver babies free of addiction. Mothers
who have lost custody of their children enter FIRP
and after
months of hard work are able to reunite with their children.
Liberation Programs/Ryan White and HIV
Services are
enriching and saving the lives of HIV+
individuals and persons living with AIDS through outreach, advocacy,
case
management and treatment. Liberation
Programs
staff members travel throughout the county reaching out to all persons
who are
HIV+ and at risk for substance abuse. They
ensure that the network of services available in the
county meets
the biopsychosocial needs of clients. Education
and testing programs work to prevent further
spreading of the
virus.
Liberation Programs/Men’s Residential
Services have been
provided in Stamford for over thirty
years. Men, 18 and older, complete a
rigorous program of rehabilitation to learn the skills to lead sober
lives. Men at Liberation Programs
Residential
join 12-step recovery programs, reunite with their families, attain
employment,
resolve legal issues and give back to the community through volunteer
work. Their parents, wives, significant
others and children learn about the disease of addiction, ways to
support recovery
in their loved ones and the importance of caring for themselves. Our men graduate with plans for continued
treatment, employment and housing.
Liberation Programs/Outpatient Clinics (Stamford and Bridgeport) are essential components of the
community’s network of
services. Men and women in our intensive
outpatient programs attend treatment activities nine or more hours each
week,
as they break the ties they have to lives of alcohol and drug
dependency. Clients work with counselors
in our clinics
to prevent relapse by resolving problems that contributed to past
substance
abuse. Sober in mind and spirit, they
use newly learned skills to cope with the everyday life pressures they
never
faced when actively drinking and using drugs. Liberation
Programs outpatient programs include IOP services in Stamford and Bridgeport.
Liberation
Programs/Detoxification Services are often the client’s first stop on the
road to
recovery. Years and increasing
quantities of alcohol and drug use make it virtually impossible and
potentially
lethal for alcoholics and addicts to stop on their own.
With specialized medical attention, 24-hour
nursing care and motivational counseling, men and women are able to
safely
withdraw from alcohol and other drugs, discover 12 step recovery and
other supports,
and develop a plan for rehabilitation. Liberation
Programs maintains a short-term residential program
in Norwalk and an ambulatory program
in Bridgeport.
Liberation
Programs/Methadone Services (Stamford and Bridgeport) transforms the lives of those ravaged by
opiate
addiction. Entering treatment with
deteriorated health, impoverished finances, disrupted families and
growing
hopelessness men and women enroll in methadone maintenance and stop
their
downward spiral. With this long-desired
physical and mental stability, they begin the struggle to remain clean
and
reenter society. Families are contacted,
homes are secured, jobs found and illnesses treated.
Liberation Programs has methadone maintenance
programs in Bridgeport and Stamford.
Liberation Programs Transitional Housing
addresses the need
so many in early
recovery face – safe
housing. Located in Bridgeport, Liberation Programs
Transitional Housing is six apartments for homeless families each with
a parent
recovering from addiction and coping with another disability, such as
mental
illness or AIDS. Family members link
with needed services with the guidance of case managers and use their
time at Liberation Programs (up to two years) to prepare for permanent
housing and continued
employment.
Liberation Programs/NIDA Clinical
Trials Liberation
Programs has been a leading member
of the Clinical
Trials Network in Connecticut participating in numerous National
Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) research protocols.
This collaboration brings treatment “best
practices” to our clinics through specialized staff training and
expanded
programming.
