There is an old saying that goes like this:
“The devil’s in the details.”
This is a true statement.
Details, in any undertaking, are the making or breaking point for success. Not addressing details in a project, from beginning to end, means that you have just created failure.
What isn’t always acknowledged is another statement that is also true.
So when planning and promoting events, after the initial idea is set forth, nothing is more important than covering the details in every aspect of your final plan.
One method to success is to visual your end product. If it is a theatre production, then see the results firmly in your mind. See the set, the lights, the costumes; see everything as you would want it.
Write it down; draw it.
Then work backwards in you vision until you are at the beginning.
The same principle works in all kinds of events, whether you are producing seminars, fund-raisers, a gallery walk, or a family holiday dinner. Visualize the end result and then lay out the plans that will support that end result.
Another famous saying is: “Know thyself.”
As a producer for major events, this is very important. For real success, know your personal strengths and weaknesses. If you are a big picture person, then make sure you have a team member who sees those aforementioned details.
If you are the detail person, make sure you have a big picture team player. Even though details are super important, they are useless without that larger vision.
Start with the end, cover details, and know yourself.
This is a great formula for success.
